Silicon Germanium

The large data demands of today's Mobile, Cloud, and Big Data applications and services mandates high speed communication connectivity solutions using Wireless, Wireline, or Optical connectivity with ever increasing data rates and bandwidth. These applications require greater chip integration, higher performance, and increased bandwidth while delivering reduced power consumption and in cost effective solutions. Telecom, Datacom, HPC, Mobile, and Wireless have been primary drivers and in addition, new applications, such as Satellite Communications, Point-to-Point radio (V-Band/E-Band), Defense and Instrumentation are demanding RF performance over wide operating conditions. Silicon Germanium BiCMOS technology is ideally suited to supporting increasing communication demands in wireless and wired networks. It combines strengths of two different processes into a single device; Bipolar transistors that offer high speed and gain and CMOS FETs (Field Effect Transistors) that excel in low power digital circuit implementations. This allows for digital, Analog and RF functions to be integrated and build a complex, small low power System on Chip ("SoC").

Telecom Applications

SiGe BiCMOS technology has product differentiating advantages for drivers and TIAs used in long haul and metro applications, from low overall component cost compared to GaAs parts, to system power consumption savings. The GaAs chips are replaced in MMIC components with SiGe counterparts that provide easier control of bias circuitry and higher integration capabilities.

Point to Point Radios

GigPeak has a deep history in designing microwave and mmW IC components utilizing Silicon Germanium ("SiGe") technology. It has successfully launched SiGe components in various commercial and military markets. These include backhaul radios and Hi-Rel satellite components for wireless applications.

Datacom Applications

In wired communications, GigPeak is expanding its low power parallel optics PMD portfolio to address the challenges of higher data rates, lower power, lower emissions and longer reach within the consumer space using the latest SiGe technology. GigPeak is developing new products that will enable chip to chip, board to board, and system to system optical interconnects, removing the constraints of copper cabling and allowing standards from 40G, 100G, and 400G to HDMI, DisplayPort and USB to realize their full potential.
