Environmental Permits and Reporting

All required environmental permits, approvals and registrations are to be obtained, maintained and kept current and their operations and reporting requirement are to be followed. GigPeak designs in RoHS (European Union Directive on the Restrictions on use of certain Hazardous Substances) compliant materials in our standard products. We will also support customers with legacy products requiring Pb when commercially possible. GigPeak designs in support for REACH in improving the protection of human health and the environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances. GigPeak will meet all applicable REACH requirements and is committed to provide our customers with information about substances in our products according to future REACH requirements.

Pollution Prevention and Resource Reduction

Waste of all types, including water and energy, are to be reduced or eliminates at the source or by practices such as modifying production, maintenance and facility processes, materials substitution, conservation, recycling and re-using materials. Motion detectors can be found throughout the GigPeak offices to reduce light intensity and energy use in unoccupied rooms. Recycling bins – Every office within GigPeak’ building is provided with a small recycling bin for used materials such as paper, plastic, and metals to reduce waste.

E-waste

Waste of all types, including water and energy, are to be Any electronic waste (e-waste) generated such as batteries, monitors, keyboards, etc. by GigPeak is handled and recycled by an outside vendor who complies with state and federal regulations for proper e-waste recycling or disposal.

Hazardous Substances

Chemicals and other materials posing as a hazard if released to the environment are to be identified and managed to ensure their safe handling, movement, storage, use, recycling or reuse or disposal.

Hazardous Materials

The County of Santa Clara is contacted when the amount of hazardous waste has reached a level ready for disposal.

Air Emissions

Air emissions of volatile organic chemicals , aerosols, corrosives, particulates, ozone, depleting chemicals and combustion by-products generated from operations are to be characterized, monitors, controlled and treated as required prior to discharge.

Liquid Nitrogen (LN2)
and Nitrogen (N2)

Air emissions occur in the HTOL oven in the GigPeak lab. These gas type emissions are extremely low level, non-toxic, and are controlled and regulated by the ovens by ducting the outside air external to the lab.

Product Content Restrictions

GigPeak adheres to all applicable laws, regulations and customer requirements regarding prohibition or restriction of specific substances, including labeling for recycling and disposal.

Labor

GigPeak is committed to uphold the human rights of workers, and to treat them with dignity and respect as understood by the international community. This applies to all workers including temporary, migrant, student, contract, direct employees, and any other type of worker.

These human rights and labor rights include: freely chosen employment, child labor avoidance, working hours, wages and benefits, humane treatment, non-discrimination, and freedom of association.

GigPeak follows all applicable state and federal labor laws and regulations. All of GigPeak’ policies or standards on labor can be found in the following documents: Employee Handbook and any Addendum to said Handbook. Internal employees can reference this handbook on HR Passport.

Health & Safety

GigPeak recognizes that in addition to minimizing the incidence of work-related injury and illness, a safe and healthy work environment enhances the quality of products and services, consistency of production and worker retention and morale. GigPeak also recognizes that ongoing worker input and education is essential to identifying and solving health and safety issues in the workplace.

GigPeak recognizes the importance of health and safety for all employees including occupational safety, emergency preparedness, occupational injury and illness, industrial hygiene, physically demanding work, machine safeguarding, and sanitation.

GigPeak follows all safety and health standards stated in the Occupational health and Safety Act of 1970 and any add-ons made to it by the state and federal government. An established approach for responsible purchasing stands on 3 pillars: Require, Assess, and Improve.

Require

Set clear CR requirements for top 10 suppliers, and integrate them into the supplier Quality Survey. All suppliers are required to conform to GigPeak policies on Conflict Minerals, RoHS and REACH.

Assess

Track suppliers’ CR performance through supplier surveys and audits including CSR Manuals.

Improve

Collaborate with suppliers who lack CSR Manuals to create manuals and improve their standing.

Apes of Wrath Robotics

GigPeak is a sponsor for the “Apes of the Wrath”, a local high school robotics team that competes in FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). The team is mentored by GigPeak employee Jimmy Crider and, in turn, mentors younger teams of aspiring engineers. GigPeak feels privileged to help an organization that aims to make engineering and technology cool for young people!

Community Service Day

Taking an opportunity to give back to the community, a group of GigPeak employees took an afternoon off of work to help out at George Mayne Elementary near our San Jose headquarters. We painted United States and world maps on the playground, repainted the basketball hoops, and installed new planter boxes for the kindergarten classes to use for learning.

"A Theatre Near U" Sponsorship

GigPeak sponsors “A Theatre Near U,” a film and theatre academy for artistic teens eager to participate in the advanced study of film and theatre acting, directing and writing. A Theatre Near U offers training in these disciplines at a level not found elsewhere in our community. It is a place where those who take their craft seriously can work with peers equally devoted and passionate.
